Today I’m giving a shoutout to the remarkable HR storytelling I’m reading on LinkedIn. After all, who else but human resource professionals understand how best to drive employee engagement and workplace wellbeing? Even when the workplace becomes virtual and home-based.
What’s important about the stories CHRO’s and managers share are that these stories are simple stories, human stories. About employees doing what is best to serve each other and customers. Because these extraordinary times (should) move us all way, way beyond focusing on making our own numbers and fulfilling key performance indicators.
Instead, we redefine our relevance and value: to ourselves, our employees and our clients. And maybe it’s about time to have that discussion, anyway?
The remarkable HR storytelling spontaneously emerging, as HR managers lead virtually, are stories about hope: in each other.
If you are an HR professional reading this post, what stories emerge in your own workplace? Keeping employees engaged in better serving each other involves focusing on the stories being co-created today, tomorrow and in the future.
These emerging workplace stories will stick around and define you, your people and your organization.
“Normally” my work with organizations and associations focuses on navigating the impact of technical and regulatory IOT changes on workforce and leadership capacity to handle change. And how, as we focus on the stories we create together, we better serve each other and our clients.
Never in a million years did I think that I would be creating today’s post. And, neither in a million years, did you think you would be reading this post and wrestling with the almost unimaginable.
Well, we sure are navigating with unprecedented change, now. Let’s do this Together. One millimeter at a time.
Today, I thank every HR professional who is doing their level best, continuously serving their employees, partners and clients. I salute the remarkable HR storytelling that you create as your legacy.
And that’s my message to all of you. Let’s take heart. Let’s have hope. Together. Thinking about the enormity of the task at hand will only overwhelm you more than you already are. And, yes, things are changing hourly because the status quo is temporary at present.
Instead of thinking about running the COVID19 marathon – all 42, 195,000 millimeters of it – take your first step forward. That tiny, one millimeter step you take moves you beyond what is professionally comfortable today. Reach out to a colleague simply for the sole reason of connection and reassurance. Even when no meeting is scheduled. Become workplace wellness partners.
Follow the lead of your HR storytellers. Create human conversations with each other. Redefine what it means to being part of a team and serving each other.
