You have powerful soft skills. However, you are not leveraging these very effectively. Mostly because these important skills get lost as you focused on earning all those professional certifications during 2020.
However, before you add one more certification to your resume, I have a question for you.
How do you plan on communicating the power of those certifications?
- First, how will you talk the talk?
- Next, how will you walk the walk to people within your discipline?
- Then, more importantly, how will you walk that walk outside of your professional discipline? Where the lines of communication and collaboration become professionally ambiguous.
In speaking to and working with you, I sense your excitement. You cannot wait to start incorporating those newly earned professional certifications into how you deliver value.
Yet before you rush forward and act, think about it. Prior to starting the “doing” you need to be comfortable explaining the importance of the “why.” More than that, you must be conversant translating the significance of that “why.” Can you confidently translate across job titles, pay grades, levels of education, generations and professional disciplines? Otherwise, you will not get to where you really need to go, together.
All it takes is your choice to move one millimeter forward, beyond what is professionally comfortable today. To get to where you really need to go, together, tomorrow and moving forward. One millimeter at a time.
Have powerful soft skills gotten lost somewhere in your expanding professional toolkit?
As you emerge into the post-pandemic global business ecosystem, soft skills are mission-critical to communicating cross-functionally. These collaboration skills are the keys to your professional success. Because tomorrow’s professionals must become even more professionally visible, cross-functionally relevant and strategically valuable. And valuable not only to colleagues functioning both virtually and physically within your department. But also, valuable to colleagues across your organization as well as external to it.
