Post pandemic professional innovation requires you to push yourself to make necessary hard calls. Deciding on that first push forward is the hardest call you make.
Because as you collectively crawl out of your quarantine caves, into the light, you discover the business ecosystem is changed. You and your colleagues are moving forward towards what, continuously, presents as new and next each day. Even though you still work with the same colleagues and clients. Everything just seems, well, different and explorable.
So you reflect. At what point does it occur to you that you need to push forward to make those necessary hard calls?
Possibly you realize you learned a lot about your professional capabilities and capacity over the past year. One thing you learn is that you are capable of orchestrating far more creative and collaborative outcomes than your current position requires.
- That insight is when you first decide to push yourself into the professional unknown. Greater responsibilities within your current professional role over the past year result in continuous self-discovery.
- Next, you discover you actually like doing more, rather than remaining stagnant in a prescribed and limited role. So you make another hard call and push towards a Big Idea.
- Then, your Big Idea grows even bigger. You realize you are so very capable of leading while simultaneously exploring all that you do not know. Why continue to follow when you can become a curious professional explorer, moving forward one millimeter at a time?
- Plus you find you enjoy flexing your mental muscles collaborating with people outside your department and professional discipline. Suddenly working within your department seems tremendously isolating and frustrating. Again, you make another hard call and push one more millimeter forward.
Finally, you push yourself to make even more necessary hard calls.
You give yourself permission to exercise personal choice about your professional future. You stop leaving You up to everyone else. Instead, you develop new professional interests. Thus, you select learning programs to fuel your newly-found professional self-awareness. Consequently you anticipate, rather than fear, making the next hard call and big push propelling you even further into uncharted professional waters. Because grand new opportunities lie just beyond your current professional horizon. Can you feel them waiting for you to get to where you really need to go?
Then continue to push yourself forward. Let’s take these next steps together!
