Do you follow a professional success recipe? Which ingredients are included? Are you missing some key ingredients?
Your professional success recipe includes a series of milestones and assumptions.
First, business and hiring models expect professionals to achieve various levels of certified proficiency. Next, earning these accomplishments involves time, money, and your commitment. Then, you may assume that employers will underwrite your professional education. What have you discovered, thus far?
Next, you reach a point in your professional recipe for success when you realize “something” is missing. Initially, you just start feeling a bit uncomfortable, unsettled, yet you cannot pinpoint why. You discover:
- Your professional career selection just may not be for you; and/or
- You have multiple professional interests which compete for your time and attention; and/or
- Life gets in the way, and earning these degrees or certifications gets stalled or derailed; and/or
- Your professional success involves more than following a step-wise linear progression designed by someone else for what seems to fit the majority of people.
Because when you flow with, instead of fight against, changing professional scenarios, you discover missing ingredients in what you assume is your original recipe for professional success.
Not only do you discover ingredients which are missing in your professional success recipe. You also discover which ingredients need to be jettisoned – by you, on purpose.
Creating your own unique, distinctive recipe for professional success continuously adds the ingredient of self-belief. Over time, you choose to eliminate an original ingredient: leaving “You” up to other people. Rather, self-belief ingredient allows you to incorporate, or reject, values, beliefs, principles, assumptions, and systems which compromise you: morally, ethically, and spiritually. Even if you are not in a position to walk away from an employer or toxic colleagues and co-workers just yet, your self-belief becomes your compass forward.
Trusting the purpose that catalyzes you to move one millimeter forward each day creates one of the greatest recipes for professional success. When you believe in your purpose, you liberate yourself from the status quo. You move forward with courage, curiosity, and critical thinking skills. And you continuously journey towards what is new and next. Discovering your purpose changes everything, moving forward. What is your purpose?
