Do you have the same post pandemic professional target you aimed at about 18 months ago? Our professional environments have shifted. Many professionals I speak to feel somewhat out of sync professionally: trying to fit back into environments that just do not fit them anymore.
Are you an out of sync professional? Is what you are feeling necessarily a bad thing? Rather, you just may be on to what is new, next, and definitely changing for you, professionally.

Consider that your post pandemic professional target encompasses more, rather than less.
Do the key performance indicators of your professional role feel accurate? Or do your KPIs feel, more than ever, like an under-representation of your current professional capabilities? In what areas have you grown beyond your current job function? Make a list of your growth areas, even if you think this list has nothing to do with your professional goals. It just could be you are underestimating yourself (again?).
Next, evaluate whether the mindset and tools you use to take aim at your post pandemic professional target are higher caliber than what the job requires. If you are one of the many professionals who took the time to upskill and reskill, you ended up rewiring your professional DNA. You are not the same person you “used” to be, and hopefully for the better. So why are you surprised that your former professional role feels like clothing that no longer fits?
Then consider whether your corporate culture supports your realization that you are so much more than you were “before.” What other internal opportunities allow you to stretch your post-pandemic professional self: more productively, profitably and purposefully? How will you evaluate each opportunity as you, yourself, evaluate and redefine your own post pandemic professional KPIs?
Embrace, rather than deny, that your post pandemic professional self is more than, rather than less.
Then, create a professional target that allows you to grow and develop, moving forward. Even if your pathway is non-linear and non-traditional. It just could be that Yesterday’s business and hiring models also are out of sync with the future of work, moving forward. Sometimes the best way to chip away at those models is for employees, like you, to redefine your own post pandemic professional targets. As a result, everyone gets to where they really need to go, one millimeter at a time. Together.
