Are you the type of professional who continuously evaluates the status of your professional self?
Perhaps you are in the middle of changing around your office furniture for a fresh injection of Feng Shui energy. Alternatively, you may be purchasing new electronics for that work-from-home office of yours. To you, these external manifestations of your professional self represent changes you make to the status quo.
However, consider that it is easier for you and me to change our “stuff,” our trappings, our possessions, and consider that we have made updates and upgrades. Instead, how about focusing on our own chief operating system: our professional selves. This system operates independently of our stuff; it composes the core of who we are as professionals of worth.
What actions are you taking to maintain, update or completely upgrade your professional self?
How you manifest to others in the virtual or actual workplace is all about your mindset, values, principles, ethics, and yes, your considerable skills. As a result, how you professionally show up to and for others is not just all about your degrees or professional certifications. Each day, the people you engage with are professionally impacted by whether you and they co-create trust to best serve each other and your clients and patients.
If you take a few minutes to pause for your own professional cause, you come face-to-face (literally) with whether you are consistently trust-worthy and purpose-driven. To maintain consistent, purpose-driven trustworthiness requires small, one millimeter changes, made gradually over time. These small changes add up to have a big impact on getting everyone to where they really need to go: together. Often, these one millimeter changes are based on trust and confidence in one another, even when the best technology and funding and business ecosystems are not available: yet.
This week, take a pause for your own professional cause. Think about what aspects of your professional self you would maintain right now, just the way they are, always. Which parts of you need to be updated? Then, what are the values, ethics, mindset, principles, and skills which will benefit by a complete upgrade? Is it time to take your first, one millimeter steps forward, to get to where you really need to go, together? Contact me here and let’s start!
